Teen suffers serious head injury at sports carnival

A 15-year-old boy has suffered a serious head injury after collapsing during a sports carnival on the NSW Central Coast.

It is believed the boy collapsed and hit his head towards the end of a running race.

The teen was airlifted to Westmead Children's Hospital in a critical condition after the injury was reported just before noon.

The carnival was taking place on Wyong Road, Tumbi Umbi, north of Gosford.

Earlier reports had stated that the boy had a suspected heart attack, but NSW Ambulance has stated he did not suffer a cardiac arrest.

He is currently in a stable condition.
