Brain damage after boob job coma

An 18-year-old woman who fell into a coma after having breast augmentation surgery has woken with brain damage that has left her unable to walk.

Linda Perez, of Miami, Florida, was a vivacious young mother when she went in for the US$2100 ($2349) surgery in August, the New York Daily News reports.

An hour after the operation she suffered complications and fell into a coma for almost two months.

She is finally home under 24-hour care but cannot walk and can only speak a few words.

Doctors fear she will never make a full recovery.

"She goes into depression and crying," her mother, Mariela Diaz, told the Miami Herald.

"She sees that she cannot walk and when she realizes what happened to her she cries."

The family's lawyer, Mark Eiglarsh, has blamed the clinic where Ms Perez had the surgery for the teenager's condition.

"A healthy 18-year-old should be able to undergo a routine surgical procedure and not end up in a vegetative state," he told the New York Daily News.

However the centre claims Ms Perez has past medical problems that she had failed to inform doctors about and her family had stalled attempts to investigate her toxicology reports.

Her surgeon, Dr Jacob Freiman, says he believes Ms Perez withheld information about her past medical problems so that she could go ahead with the procedure.

The family say they plan to file a lawsuit against the clinic.
