Student found at SA school with toy gun

A student with an imitation handgun sparked a lockdown at an Adelaide high school, with police bringing in the dog squad to find the youth.

The incident was sparked on Friday when a member of the public reported seeing a student in uniform at the Norwood Morialta High School in possession of what appeared to be a gun.

Other students were kept in their classrooms as a precaution as police converged on the eastern suburbs location.

Police said later a student had been identified in possession of an imitation toy firearm and was assisting officers with their inquiries.

"While this was a harmless incident, it could have been very real," a police spokesman said.

"From a distance, toy and imitation firearms can look very real and as such create concern."

No charges have been laid.
