‘Our hearts are broken’: Tributes pour in for teen electrician killed in ute rollover

Tributes are flowing for a teenage electrician killed in a ute rollover in regional Victoria.

Ryley Bjorksten, 19, has been identified by Euroa Football Netball Club (FNC) as the victim in a ute crash in Balmattum, north-east of Melbourne, overnight.

Police said a number of people were riding in the ute’s tray when it rolled on Faithfuls Creek Road about 2.15am today.

Mr Bjorksten died at the scene, while four other ute occupants were taken to hospital with injuries.

The Euroa FNC described the teen as an “integral member of the senior football side for the last three years”, adding that the teen played 18 games this year for a total of 35 goals.

“Ryley’s speed, coupled with sublime foot skills, meant he was not only in the upper echelon of players in the club but in the entire Goulburn Valley League,” the club said in a statement to 9NEWS.

“Our hearts are broken. Our thoughts and condolences are with the immediate and extended family at this time.”

He is survived by his mother Lauren, father Justin, and 15-year-old brother Jye.

Mrs Bjorksten earlier told the Herald Sun he was “popular with lots of mates”.

“It’s just devastating. It is a small country town everybody knew him. We still don’t know what happened,” she said.

Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
