A 13-year-old boy overdosed on amphetamines and collapsed while trick-or-treating on Friday night in Sydney’s northern beaches.

The teen’s friends immediately phoned his parents after he lost consciousness at around 8pm and was rushed to MonaVale Hospital.

Doctors confirmed he had consumed a quantity of amphetamines.

The teen was kept under observation overnight and released Saturday morning.

“It’s believed the youth sourced the drug when he met some older youths in Avalon earlier that night,” Northern Beaches crime manager Inspector Craig Wonders told The Manly Daily.

Insp Wonders said the quick actions of the boy’s friends assisted in the medical response, and it’s understood they did not take any illegal substances.

“The police are treating this incident extremely seriously as a youth of that age could have been seriously harmed.”
