Teen charged over random stabbing attack at Sydney train station

A teenager has been charged after he allegedly went on a stabbing rampage at a Sydney train station overnight.

A 46-year-old man was at Chatswood train station around 8pm yesterday when he was allegedly attacked by a 16-year-old boy.

The teenager allegedly appeared to randomly approach the man before slashing him in the leg with a knife.

It's understood the boy tried to bolt after the attack and was chased down by police. 

Once arrested and placed in the back of a police van, the teenager remained agitated and kicked the door repeatedly. 

The boy was arrested by police at the scene and has been charged with reckless wounding and assault police.

A young woman, believed to be the accused's girlfriend, appeared to be very distressed, wailing and crying, as she was spoken to by police at the scene.

Another young man comforted her, before he was also searched by officers. 

The accused was refused bail and will face Parramatta Children’s Court later today.

The victim was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment.
