Tech cuts desk time for Qld G20 police

Brisbane police will spend less time behind their desks and more time on the beat during the coming G20 meeting.

About 500 officers have been given iPads or iPhones to access a new police program instantly and don't have to return to their stations to search databases or file reports.

Police Minister Jack Dempsey said another 1250 officers would be given devices to help them access the system before the G20 meeting in November.

"These devices can save up to 30 minutes per officer per shift in desk time, which will add up to many thousands of desk hours per week," he said in statement.

Police Commissioner Ian Stewart said the devices gave officers more reliable access to information where they would usually rely on radios.
