Dad suffers serious burns in Melbourne house fire

A father has been left with serious burns after a large house fire erupted in Melbourne.

Authorities were called to a two-storey Taylors Lake property overnight after a fire broke out in the garage.

The 44-year-old dad tried to extinguish the blaze but sustained serious burns to his hands and feet.

Meanwhile, his wife and three young children managed to escape the blaze unharmed.

The man was taken to hospital, where he is being treated for the burns.

The garage, including two cars, sustained extensive damage.

Fire crews said it took 50 minutes to get the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire is being investigated but it has been deemed not suspicious.
