Grandmother hit by car while inspecting damaged Melbourne taxi

A Melbourne grandmother has been struck by a car and seriously injured while inspecting damage to a taxi she owned.

Singh Singh, 56, arrived at Leeks Road in Truganina about 2.30am to inspect damage to her taxi from a minor collision.

While she was waiting for it to be towed, she was struck by a passing car which then drove off.

A tow truck driver took down the registration of the vehicle.

Mrs Singh’s husband Gurdev said his wife was recovering and will undergo surgery later today.

“The doctors said they affect… her leg and right hand side… very, very badly,” Mr Singh said.

Detective Sergeant Christian Von Tunk said roadworks in the area had “complicated” things.

“The taxi that was involved in the earlier collision had interaction with the roadworks… and then we’ve had a second vehicle come through and strike the pedestrian,” he said.

Ms Singh was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital with serious leg and pelvic injuries.

A 37-year-old man was arrested by police a short time later, and later released pending further investigation.
