The new financial year brings with it a shift in Tasmania's health administration.

The Tasmanian Health Service officially kicks in on Wednesday, replacing three regional organisations which Health Minister Michael Ferguson called a broken system.

"A health system which is regionally divided, inefficient and, despite the best efforts of our skilled medical professionals, cannot deliver better treatment for Tasmanians," he said.

While the service officially starts on Wednesday, there will be a gradual roll-out of changes, with a full implementation plan due by October.
