Woman drowns, two daughters saved in Tasmanian beach tragedy

A woman has drowned after a family swimming mishap in northern Tasmania.

The woman and her two daughters got into difficulties off Somerset Beach shortly before 6pm on Thursday, Tasmanian police say.

Her daughters were rescued safe and well but the woman, 49, died in hospital despite efforts of bystanders and paramedics to resuscitate her.
