Wife objects to Tas MP's email audit

Divorce proceedings involving a Tasmanian state MP will stand in the way of an investigation into whether he maintained private business interests - and therefore a possible conflict of interest - after being appointed to cabinet.

Adam Brooks resigned as mining minister on June 13 after it was discovered he continued to use an email account linked to his mining company and the Liberal administration subsequently launched an audit of his email account.

"Mr Brooks' lawyer has advised that he has been informed that Mrs Brooks does not consent to the audit being undertaken (and) as a result, I have been advised that the audit cannot proceed at this time," Premier Will Hodgman said on Tuesday, adding that the backbencher will not be considered for future ministerial positions until the matter is finalised.
