Union call for Tas ambulance funding

Ambulances in Tasmania have the nation's slowest emergency response time and paramedic representatives want more money for additional staff and vehicles.

It takes on average 14.1 minutes for an ambulance to respond to an emergency call and Health and Community Services Union spokesman Robbie Moore said that as hospital waiting times grow and overtime reaches a record high, the service is only surviving on workers' good will.

"There are just three full-time ambulances in urban Launceston and six full-time ambulances in urban Hobart. Every piece of analysis says this is not enough," Mr Moore said on Friday, calling for a significant funding boost in the upcoming state budget.
