Tasmanian pair charged after brutal attack

A man and woman have been charged over a violent burglary in which a Tasmanian man was struck with a baseball bat, tied up and his property ransacked.

Police have charged a woman, 45, and man, 36, with aggravated burglary and aggravated armed robbery following the attack at Deloraine, in the state's central north, early Friday morning.

The pair, from Perth, are behind bars and expected to appear in Launceston Magistrates Court on Saturday.

The victim, 56, lost consciousness after being assaulted and tied up with rope, and his attackers stole antiques, power tools, televisions, other household items and then fled the scene in his car.

Police said he had been discharged from hospital but was "shaken by the ordeal".

The victim has several staples to his head and stitches to his face, as well as abrasions and bruising to his body.

Detectives are also investigating a third suspect believed to have been involved in the home invasion.
