Tasmanian man treated for gunshot wound

An elderly man has been accidentally shot in the hand in southern Tasmania, police say.

The 78-year-old was taken to hospital by ambulance from the small town of Maydena, north of Hobart, on Wednesday.

Investigators issued a reminder that firearms should be unloaded when transported, even if a trigger guard is in place.
