Tasmanian dam levels show increase

Rainfall across Tasmania has lifted the state's hydro-electric dam levels as the island's government continues to use backup generators to meet energy demands.

In the seven days to Monday, Tasmania's overall dam levels increased from 13 per cent to 16.1 per cent in a shift welcomed by Energy Minister Matthew Groom while a Bass Strait electricity cable remains damaged and out of order.

"There is a long road ahead to rebuild our dams and it will require careful ongoing management and a lot of hard work," Mr Groom said.
