Tasmania spared NYE fire ban

Tasmania has been spared a total fire ban on New Year's Eve with authorities declaring conditions will not be as severe as forecast.

The Tasmania Fire Service had warned of a ban for Thursday amid hot and dry weather when Launceston is expected to hit 33C and parts of the state's north and Midlands are at very high fire risk.

"The fire weather coming through has decreased a little bit from what was forecast so that means we don't need to declare a total fire ban for any parts of Tasmania," chief Gavin Freeman said on Wednesday.
