High-profile former nurses union secretary Neroli Ellis is among the confirmed candidates for an upcoming partial Tasmanian upper house election.

The state's Electoral Commission on Wednesday confirmed 14 candidates across three divisions for the May 6 poll, in a list bereft of Liberal Party representation.

Ms Ellis is running as an independent in the seat of Launceston against incumbent independent Rosemary Armitage and four others.

Current independent Ruth Forrest is being challenged in the western division of Murchison by salesman Daryl Quilliam, while five challengers will take on independent MP Tony Mulder in the southern seat of Rumney.
