The federal government's promise of a solution to the backpacker tax controversy within a month is not quick enough for the Tasmanian Liberal government.

The island state's Primary Industries Minister Jeremy Rockliff said he's lobbied federal counterparts for a quick fix so producers know where they stand for the summer season, and suggested a commitment by acting prime minister Barnaby Joyce to resolve the matter within a month will not be soon enough.

"It's all very well to indicate this will be resolved, but we need it resolved now because it's having an impact now on our agriculture and horticulture and tourism industries," Mr Rockliff told state parliament on Thursday.
