Tas should join greyhound ban: Greens

Tasmania has been urged to follow NSW's lead and ban greyhound racing, with the Greens citing the "inherent cruelty" of the sport.

Leader of the Tasmanian Greens, Cassy O'Connor, has chaired a parliamentary inquiry into the state's management and monitoring of greyhound racing and on Thursday congratulated the NSW Liberal administration's move to outlaw the sport by July 2017.

"The NSW premier has recognised the inherent cruelty in greyhound racing and acted in the best interests of animal welfare. It's surely time Tasmania did the same," Ms O'Connor said.
