Tas pollies squabble over Cold Chisel gig

Tasmanian premier Will Hodgman and the state's Greens leader have traded barbs on social media over the venue of a Cold Chisel concert.

The legendary Australian rockers last week announced they'll be heading to Hobart in November - the first time since 2011.

But the move attracted the ire of the Greens, who claim the one-off show on the lawns of Federal Group's Wrest Point casino will cause traffic and noise problems for residents.

Party leader Cassy O'Connor said the gig was a Federal Group ploy for positive publicity amid an ongoing debate about the merit of poker machines in Tasmania.

She sent a tweet to Mr Hodgman on Sunday saying the gig would undercut Hobart's Derwent Entertainment Centre.

But Mr Hodgman fired back on Monday tweeting: "Are you seriously saying Federal Hotels shouldn't host events like this? They're a tourism business competing in a booming visitor economy!"

A spokesman for Federal Group told The Mercury newspaper the casino has been hosting international acts for over 44 years.

"We look forward to continuing to bring major acts to Hobart and Launceston for the enjoyment of Tasmanians well into the future," he said.
