Tas police search for old paper banknotes

Tasmania Police are advising people to look out for old Australian paper banknotes after they were stolen from a collector's home.

Police say burglars took the old paper banknotes, produced between 1966 and 1988, from a collector's home in Kingborough earlier this month.

The notes, which are still legal tender, may be put in circulation and police are asking shop keepers and market stall holders to keep an eye out for them.

"For you young ones - the notes will feel different too as they were produced between 1966 and 1988 when notes were made of paper," police said on Friday.
