Police are continuing to negotiate with a man who is believed to be armed and refusing to leave a Launceston home.
Officers were called to the Newnham home on Monday morning where a 35-year-old man was holding a woman and two children under threat.
The woman and children left the home safely after specialist resources were called in to negotiate and contain the property.
"There were strong indications that firearms were involved," police said.
"Police would like to reassure the community that they have control of the situation and are working for a peaceful conclusion."
A number of nearby residents have been evacuated as a precaution.
