Tas man charged with burning own homes

A 54-year-old Tasmanian man has been charged with arson and dishonesty offences after his house was destroyed by fire.

The Geeveston man was charged with attempting to dishonestly acquire a financial advantage and claim insurance for the fire damage.

He has also been charged over two fires at his previous address at Blackmans Bay, and in relation to the torching of a VW Combi and MG motor car.

The charges relate to nearly $1 million worth of insurance claims.

He will appear at the Hobart Magistrates court in May.
