Tas looks to attract more defence money

Tasmania wants to dig deeper into the nation's multi-billion dollar defence purse and has developed a framework to harness its potential.
State Growth Minister Matthew Groom on Wednesday released the Our Fair Share of Defence Strategy, including support and assistance for businesses to compete for defence tenders and increase the state's current 0.03 per cent share of federal spending.
"The strategy will target our fair share of defence spending by attracting, enabling and building defence industries in the state and promoting Tasmania as both a military supplier and a port for our Southern Ocean responsibilities," the minister said.
