Tas health funds 'third of prior promise'

Tasmania has recouped a third of the federal funding previously cut to the state's health service, with a $54 million promise from Canberra, Premier Will Hodgman says.

Summing up his recent attendance at the Council of Australian Governments (COAG) meeting in state parliament on Tuesday Mr Hodgman said the Commonwealth commitment to stretch from 2017-2020 represents a 6.5 per cent additional allocation, following previous cuts to the sector by the federal coalition.

"It's about a third (of what) was cut from the unfunded Gillard-Labor-Green government promises, but it's $54 million to support Tasmania's health system so it's a good start, but there's more to do," the Liberal leader said.
