Tas Greens split to add political party

A splinter group has emerged from within the Tasmanian Greens to re-establish a decades-old political party, with plans to contest the next state election.
In a move described as disappointing by state Greens leader Cassy O'Connor, Geoff Holloway on Monday revealed his intention to register with the electoral commission the United Tasmania Group, which originally formed in the early 1970s and within a decade had morphed into the Greens.
"We don't feel that the present state Greens appreciate the wilderness and national parks aspects of Tasmania that many of us fought, even decades, to preserve," Mr Holloway told the ABC.
