Tas govt to be quizzed on property sales

The Tasmanian Greens will demand answers from the state government in parliament about plans to sell off public assets.

Party leader Cassy O'Connor said Tasmanians have been surprised by recent revelations of closed-door deals about the potential sale of iconic public buildings in both Hobart and Launceston, including the capital city's Treasury Building.

"The owners of these assets, the Tasmanian people, have to date been completely left out of the picture by the Liberals who show all the signs of believing these public assets are theirs to sell in secretive deals," Ms O'Connor said.

Treasurer Peter Gutwein said the state government will uphold its election promise not to sell off government businesses, but made no such commitment about property.

"In regards to the issue of buildings ... isn't it great that we've got investors out there who want to come to Tasmania and want to invest in Tasmania and want to have a conversation with government?" he said.

Parliament resumes on Tuesday.
