The Tasmania government will support an upper house inquiry into proposed gun law changes.

Police Minister Michael Ferguson said the inquiry, raised by independent MLC Ivan Dean, would be a chance for for "everyone concerned to have their say".

During the election campaign it was revealed the Liberals planned to water down gun laws by making weapons such as pump-action shotguns more readily available and doubling the duration of some gun licenses.
