Tas chase injures innocent elderly woman

Police are searching for a driver who rammed a car off the road in suburban Hobart, causing serious injuries to an elderly female passenger.

Officers had unsuccessfully tried to intercept the blue Commodore sedan on Tuesday night at Glenorchy before it hit the rear of a VW hatchback, forcing it off the road and into a power pole.

"This reckless behaviour, which often involves attempts to provoke police into a pursuit, puts the lives of responding officers and the offenders at risk, as well as the lives of those who inadvertently become caught up in the incident," Deputy Commissioner Scott Tilyard said, adding that the police professional standards unit will investigate the matter and priority will be given to finding the driver.
