The Tasmanian parliament has ticked off on the Liberal state government's $5.5 billion budget for 2016/17.

Handed down by Treasurer Peter Gutwein on May 26, the budget included a $77.3 million surplus for the coming financial year, but the calculations were criticised by the Labor opposition and Greens who said the government transferred funds from a state-owned business to boost the bottom line.

"The budget was well received by the business community and the social sector alike," Mr Gutwein said on Wednesday after the budget passed the upper house, having passed the House of Assembly on June 16.
