Stolen Aboriginal relics seized in NSW

More than 150 allegedly stolen Aboriginal artefacts from Tasmania have been seized at a Sydney home, where they were to be auctioned online.

Tasmania's Department of Primary Industries says the raid last week in Sydney's west followed reports the relics were due to be sold.

"It is very concerning that these culturally significant items are just being treated as a commodity," natural and cultural heritage division chief enforcement officer Luke Bond told AAP.

The nature of artefacts found and their labelling indicated the alleged theft was "very well planned" and done with a degree of "knowledge and intent", Mr Bond said.

The collection was from a number of locations across Tasmania.

Charges had not been laid and more than one person could be involved, the department said on Wednesday.
