State funeral for Tasmanian governor

Tasmanian governor Peter Underwood will be farewelled with a state funeral.

Mr Underwood's family have accepted the offer of the service, Premier Will Hodgman said in a statement on Thursday.

It will take place at Hobart's Federation Concert Hall on July 21.

"I expect legal and vice-regal representatives from across the nation and Tasmanians from all walks of life will be among those who will attend the state funeral and celebrate (Mr Underwood's) life," Mr Hodgman said.

The popular governor died on Monday night, aged 76, from complications following a kidney tumour operation.

Chief Justice Alan Blow has taken his place until a new governor is appointed.
