Authorities expect that as waters recede in Tasmania, they'll locate the bodies of two elderly men washed away in floods at the beginning of the week.

Police hold grave concerns for Trevor Foster who went missing from his Ouse property on Monday morning.

"Searches will continue as the water levels recede in the hope of providing Mr Foster's family with some closure," a Tasmania Police spokesperson said in a statement on Friday.

Searchers have located a hat which they believe Mr Foster was wearing when he was swept away.

DNA testing will be used to confirm if it belongs to the 81-year-old.

Meanwhile, in Evandale, crews will continue searching both on the water and by foot for an as yet unnamed 63-year-old man swept away in floodwaters in the early hours of Tuesday.

The man's female companion was winched to safety by a helicopter.

"Police have located the jacket belonging to the missing man," the spokesperson said on Friday.

The van driven by the pair at the time of Tuesday's incident had already been located.

The floods also claimed the life of a 75-year-old woman after her Latrobe home was inundated on Monday.
