Lost walker back from the wilderness

Snow ploughs have been used to help complete the rescue of an injured bushwalker who got lost in Tasmania's freezing wilderness.

The Northern Territory woman used a satellite phone to contact police on Monday after getting lost while walking the Overland Track at Cradle Mountain, and was found on Tuesday suffering hypothermia and a thigh injury.

After spending a night bunkered down in a hut with her rescuers waiting for bad weather to pass, the team walked to Dove Lake on Wednesday where they were met by vehicles granted access by snow ploughs.

"The woman has no serious injuries but will receive first aid by paramedics before being transported to hospital as a precaution," police said in a statement.
