Report backs TasWater takeover: govt

The latest report on Tasmania's water and sewerage services has steeled the resolve of the state government to take control of TasWater and bring forward urgent upgrades.

The Tasmanian Economic Regulator on Wednesday released its 2015-16 Tasmanian Water and Sewerage State of the Industry Report, which found "no tangible progress towards substantially improved compliance levels" over a five-year period.

"As this report shows, the status quo is simply not working to fix our water and sewerage, which is why we have announced a plan to take over TasWater. Our plan will ensure Tasmanians get better water and sewerage services faster, with lower prices and with no increase in rates," Treasurer Peter Gutwein said.
