Record number of tourists flock to Tas

More international tourists than even before visited Tasmania last financial year, with the state's overall visitor numbers jumping by nine per cent.

In the year to June, 1.27 million people travelled to the Apple Isle from mainland Australia and overseas, compared with 1.17 million during the same period in 2015/16, according to data released by Tourism Tasmania on Wednesday.

International tourism rose by 13 per cent, with more than 30,000 Chinese people visiting Tasmania - the second highest behind the US.
