Premier rejects scrutiny of Tas documents

Tasmania's premier Will Hodgman has rejected an upper house proposal to further scrutinise documents his government claims are cabinet in confidence.

Treasurer Peter Gutwein is facing being held in contempt of parliament after refusing a summons to reveal a letter which detailed advice to government on the proposed sale of the Tamar Valley Power Station.

"This matter has been determined independently and the fact is the document is cabinet in confidence," Mr Hodgman said, dismissing a proposal that a former judge or other independent third-party assess the status of the correspondence.
