Police pleased with Tas Easter road result

Tasmania has recorded a fatality-free Easter on the roads while speeding and drink driving offences were down on the previous year, police say.

During the six days up to midnight Tuesday there were 859 speeding offences recorded, down from 1057 during the same period in 2015, while drink-driving infringements went from 46 to 40.

"Overall Tasmanian motorists should be proud of the way they have conducted themselves this holiday period - there has been a marked reduction in most traffic offences, generally down by about 20 per cent," acting Inspector Stewart Williams said.
