Police not called to Hobart death: coroner

A Hobart woman died from an overdose of alcohol and prescription painkillers after exchanging a series of text messages with her de facto which were subsequently deleted from both phones, a coroner has noted.

Pamela Diane McCall, 45, died in February 2013 and in findings published on Monday Coroner Simon Cooper noted his difficulty investigating the death due partly to police not being called by ambulance officers and the subsequent disposal of evidence including the washing of a wine glass and shredding of documentation.

"Steps need to be taken by Ambulance Tasmania, in consultation with the Tasmania Police Service, to ... ensure the timely involvement of police at the scene of any likely suspicious death or anticipated suspicious death," Mr Cooper said.
