Police launch traffic blitz on Tas roads

Tasmanian police will launch a mid-week blitz on traffic offenders, and are increasing officer numbers fivefold for the occasion.

The 24-hour operation will begin at midnight on Tuesday and target speeding, drink and drug driving, inattention, fatigue, and seatbelt compliance, Acting Assistant Commissioner Mark Mewis said.

Across the island state there will be "more than five times the usual amount of rostered officers", he added.
