Online dating fraud accused refused bail

A Hobart woman charged with defrauding almost a quarter of a million dollars from a man she met while online dating has been refused bail.

Robyn Clare Pearce, 61, from Sandford faced Hobart Magistrate's Court on Wednesday charged with 122 counts of dishonestly acquiring a financial advantage.

"It is alleged (she) met a 64-year-old man from NSW on an online dating site and over a three-year period she obtained more than $247,000 from him with the false promise of repaying him the money," police said in a statement issued on Thursday.

Pearce will face court again on February 19.
