A man has died in a head-on collision north of Hobart on a day when the state's roads were affected by snow and ice.

The 62-year-old, from Dromedary, died at the scene after his four-wheel drive collided with another car on Boyer Road at Dromedary about 12.30pm on Monday, Tasmania Police said.

A 35-year-old woman in the other car was taken to Royal Hobart Hospital in a serious condition.

Snow has fallen across north, west and southern parts of Tasmania on Monday, with police warning drivers to slow down and be alert.
