Nyrstar to increase Tas investment

Global mining and metals giant Nyrstar has announced plans for a multi-million dollar upgrade and expansion of its Hobart smelter, creating up to 150 jobs.

State Growth Minister Matthew Groom said on Monday Tasmania will not provide any cash contribution, but will go guarantor for Nyrstar's $29 million loan as part of the company's $52 million investment.

The changes will mean the facility can process a wider range of metals and in the construction phase will create about 125 jobs, with a further 20 ongoing positions.
