A Hobart man has pleaded not guilty to the daylight robbery and murder of a Hobart shopkeeper.

Daryl Royston Wayne Cook, 34, faced the magistrates court by video link on Monday charged over the July 23 killing of grocery store operator Voula Delios, 68.

"It is a holding plea for the purpose of committal," a lawyer for Cook told the court after entering the plea, adding that it is not a firm indication of how the case will progress.

Cook yelled obscenities during the matter until Magistrate Sam Mollard cut the volume.

The matter was listed for mention in the Supreme Court on October 10 and Cook will remain in custody.
