No attempted murders in Tasmania: ABS

No attempted murders or manslaughter offences were reported in Tasmania in 2016, new figures show.

The Australian Bureau of Statistics data showed in Tasmania there were no attempted murder, manslaughter, kidnapping or abduction offences reported at all last year.

The state also had the lowest number of reported sexual assaults offences in the country.

Tasmanian Police Minister Rene Hidding said the statistics showed the government's plan to tackle crime was working.

He said the figures were "great news" for the community and said police numbers would be increased by 2018.
