More budget debate for Tas lower house

Tasmania's lower house gets back to business on Tuesday when the Liberal government is set to face more opposition pressure over its 2015/16 budget.

Government MPs including Premier Will Hodgman will return to the House of Assembly after a week of budget estimates hearings where they faced criticism from Labor and the Greens over their move to push ahead with previous savings measures, including public sector job cuts, and bank a GST revenue windfall.

Hundreds of millions of dollars of unexpected GST revenue will flow to the state over coming years, which has bolstered the government's balance sheet, now expected to be back in the black by 2016/17.

But Labor and the Greens want the money spent on repealing job cuts and improving services for the disadvantaged.
