Two people involved in a 16-hour overnight armed siege at a home in Launceston have been charged by police.

A man, 24, and woman, 40, who held police a bay at a property in the suburb of Trevallyn, are expected to front Launceston Magistrates Court on Tuesday.

Armed officers stormed the house on Saturday morning when they feared the woman's life was in danger.

Police have said up to 40 shots were fired from the house during the siege that began on Friday afternoon.

A handful of residents were evacuated from their homes. No one was injured.

The pair have been charged over a shooting at the same address on Wednesday.

A woman - not the one involved in the siege - suffered a gunshot wound to her leg.

The man involved in the siege is also accused of robbing a Launceston BP service station on Thursday.
