A man has been charged over an early morning armed heist at a Hobart pub and the torching of a stolen car.

Police allege the masked 19-year-old demanded money from staff at the Elwick Hotel at Glenorchy about 3am on Monday.

They say he fired a gun, which had a torch strapped to its barrel, into a wall inside the pub before making off with a small amount of cash.

No one was hurt.

Police believe the man stole a red or maroon Suburu the day before the alleged robbery.

The car was found badly burned at a nearby suburb on Monday.

The alleged thief is expected to face court on Tuesday afternoon on four charges including armed robbery and unlawfully setting fire to property.
