Lightning strike sparks aircraft turnback

A Jetstar flight out of Melbourne abandoned its trip to Hobart when the aircraft was struck by lightning.

The airline on Wednesday confirmed that a Tuesday evening service turned back as a precaution and passengers were transferred to another aircraft, arriving in the Tasmanian capital almost four hours late.

"Our engineers have conducted an inspection on the aircraft and it has been cleared to return to service," a Jetstar statement read.
